KALKASKA -- UPDATE as of 9:00pm:

The Kalkaska Township Fire Chief tells 7&4 News that the 101-year-old Shetler Family Dairy farmhouse was destroyed in this evening's fire.

He says the fire started just before 5 pm in the kitchen and is still burning because additions to the house made it difficult for the firefighters to get to certain areas.  Firefighters could only fight the fire from the outside because the floor and ceiling were compromised, making it too dangerous to go inside the farmhouse.

There was nobody inside the farmhouse at the time and nobody was injured because they were at the farm when they saw the flames.

Thirty-five firefigthers from four departments worked to fight the blaze.  Specialized Safety Services and Safety First were on scene to provide air for the firefighters.

Firefighters are on the scene of a blaze at Shetler Family Dairy southeast of Kalkaska.

7&4 News is told a farmhouse on the property is on fire, but that the dairy operation is not impacted.

We have a crew on the way to the scene and we will update as more details emerge.
