INTERLOCHEN -- UPDATE: 59-year-old Joann Schafer was crossing M-137 when she was hit by a southbound car.

The car was driven by 78-year-old Donald Komrska, of Interlochen.

Deputies say the area where Ms. Shafter was crossing was unlit and was not a crosswalk.

The driver had not been drinking, authorities say.

Authorities in Grand Traverse County are investigating a deadly accident, that killed one person Saturday night.

Sheriff Deputies say happened around 7:30pm Saturday night, on M-137 near Railroad Street in Green Lake Township.

Authorities say a person was crossing M-137 and was hit by a vehicle. The person did not survive. The name of the victim has not yet been released.

Investigators were on the scene well into the night on Saturday, in fact, drivers were urged to take alternate routes to avoid traffic delays.
