An Open House was held yesterday to show off the new Grand Traverse County Health Department building.

Dozens of people attended the event including several doctors and dentists who are contributors to Health Department services.

The facility, which is on LaFranier Road, cost $5 million and is 33,000 square feet, almost double the size of the old location.

County Commissioners approved the project last fall.

Health Department officials say the larger facility will help them better serve the growing number of people turning to them for help.

"This space really allows us to be able to provide efficient services and some additional public health services to the citizens of the county," said Health Officer Wendy Trute.

The project is being paid for by selling the old building on Garfield Ave and leasing out space in the new facility to Dental Clinic North.

The county also received emergency management grants.
