TRAVERSE CITY -- A 26-year-old Manton man was arrested for having an unregistered handgun while drunk at a Traverse City motel.
The incident happened at the Holiday Inn on Front Street in Traverse City Sunday afternoon. Motel security had the suspect restrained in the parking lot when the officers arrived. Police say when they subject was patted down, the officer felt a handgun in the man's coat pocket. The gun was taken and the man was detained.
Police say an investigation showed the subject was with another individual and that these two subjects had an altercation with a third person. When motel security got involved, the suspect and his friend tried to leave before police arrived.
The man was determined to be drunk. The gun he had in his possession with a .45 caliber Ruger. The gun was unregistered and the man did not have a CCW permit.
