Thirty-three starving horses were recently rescued from a presque isle farm. A majority of the animals have been adopted by a local farmer but 10 were sent to a Charlevoix County Rescue Ranch.

That's where Pamela Graves, Director of Second Chance Ranch and Rescue in Boyne City is nursing the horses back to health with her team of volunteers.

The horses were recently found starving and malnourished at a Presque Isle property. Their former owner, Christine Thompson is now facing multiple abuse and neglect charges. Ranch directors tell us that of these 10 horses, four mares are pregnant and the ranch needs help caring for the already needy animals.

Three mares and one filly were fostered by one volunteer because space is so limited at Second Chance. It looks like all these horses will survive, two of the ten that were brought to the ranch had to be put down.
