ALPENA -- An Alpena man was arrested for accosting an underage girl on the internet.
According to the Alpena Police Department, a 36-year-old Alpena man contacted an 11-year-old girl in Pennington County, South Dakota on a popular social networking website. Police in South Dakota tell authorities in Alpena that during a chat session, the suspect asked the young girl to remove her clothing and appear on a webcam.
Police say the man also encouraged the young girl to commit suicide.
The investigation led South Dakota authorities to a suspect that lived in the City of Alpena.
Officers from the Alpena Police Department executed a search warrant and took several items as evidence.
A warrant was issued for Accosting a Minor for Immoral Purposes which is a felony punishable with up to four years in prison. If convicted, the man must also submit to HIV/STD testing and register as a Tier II sex offender.
