High winds keep power crews busy

TRAVERSE CITY -- Crews across Michigan continue to try to restore power to hundreds left in the dark from high winds.

7&4 Storm Team Meteorologist Joe Charlevoix reports wind speeds as high as 60mph in parts of northern Michigan.   Just after midnight 60mph winds were reported in Alcona County.  Manistee County had wind gusts of up to 54mph.  In Leelanau County wind was clocked at 53mph.

Consumers Energy reports about 12,000 customers without power statewide.  Consumers Energy hopes to have most of the customers back on by noon Tuesday, but as high winds continue, more outages may be reported.

Here are the details for Consumers Energy outages in northern Michigan as of Tuesday morning:

Benzie County: 70 customers impacted
Grand Traverse County 76 customers
Otsego County: 100 outages reported
Oscoda County: 1,230 customers impacted
Wexford County:  55 outages reported

Cherryland Electric crews continue to restore power to 123 customers.  Downed power lines impacted more than one-thousand Cherryland Electric customers since the wind picked up across northern Michigan Monday evening. 

Cherryland Electric reports linemen are working on an outage south of Thompsonville.  There is also an outage impacting customers north of Kaleva Tuesday morning as well as Suttons Bay.

As of 11:30 am,Cloverland Electric Cooperative is reporting outages in Naubinway, Engadine, Trout Lake, Curtis, Germfask, Eckerman, Strongs and McMillan. There are currently 650 Cloverland customers without power.
