HARRISON TWP., MICH. (AP) -- Selfridge Air National Guard Base is conducting drills this weekend that are expected to include the firing of signal flares over the southeast Michigan facility.
The Air National Guard says flares may be visible Saturday in the residential areas surrounding the base in Macomb County's Harrison Township. Officials say the training with signal flares simulates one possible scenario of how a downed air crew could signal their location to rescuers.
The public is being notified so that area residents aren't concerned by the flares.
