TRAVERSE CITY -- Northern Michigan's largest school district held a community meeting Tuesday evening to spread the word on a $100 million bond proposal.

Traverse City Area Public Schools is asking voters on Nov. 6 to approve a millage increase to pay for renovations to several school buildings, improve technology, and replace some buses. The bond proposal includes reconstruction for Eastern Elementary, Interlochen Community, Glenn Loomis Montessori and Central Grade School.

Traverse City Area Public Schools Superintendent Steve Cousins says, "At the end of the day, it's all about creating facilities that when teachers and students come together to interact around content, they have the tools they need to be competitive in a global environment."

The millage rate levied by TCAPS is projected to go to 3.9 from 3.1, which is a .8 mill increase. This increase will cost the owner of a home with a market value of $200,000 less than $80 per year, or about $6.70 per month.

The information meetings will take place at the following times:

Tuesday, October 2nd, 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM TC West Senior High School Auditorium

Wednesday, October 10th, 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM Traverse Area District Library McGuire Room

Thursday, October 11th, 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM Peninsula Community Library

Tuesday, October 16th:, 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM TC Central High School Auditorium

Monday, October 29th, 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM Green Lake Township Building Fellowship Hall
