WEST BRANCH (AP) -- Katie Couric is giving a Disney World trip to a 16-year-old Michigan girl who was elected as her school's homecoming queen in an apparent prank.
Whitney Kropp was named to the homecoming court of the 800-student Ogemaw Heights High School earlier last month but says she felt betrayed after some students suggested her selection was a joke.
She says she'd been picked on in the past, but it intensified afterward.
Her story sparked national interest and on Friday, residents and business owners in the West Branch area turned out to the homecoming game to show their support.
Kropp appeared Tuesday on Couric's new daytime talk show "Katie."
The Detroit News says the show gave Kropp and another bullied student guest Disney World trips.
