CADILLAC -- A Wexford County baby is fighting for his life at a hospital in Grand Rapids, while the man accused of causing his injuries sits in jail.

Andrew Basinski, 24, of Cadillac was charged Thursday with three counts of first-degree child abuse.   Bond is set at $100,000 cash for each charge.

Rescue crews were called to a home on South Mitchell Street in Cadillac on August 28 for a child who was not breathing.  The victim, Trenton Ellis, was taken to Mercy Hospital in Cadillac and then flown to Helen DeVos Children's Hospital in Grand Rapids.

An investigation led to Basinksi's arrest Wednesday on the child abuse charges.  Police say he was babysitting Ellis when the abuse happened.

Trenton Ellis turned 1-year-old on Aug. 29.   He is in serious condition at DeVos Children's Hospital.

The family has started a facebook page for the child called Prayers For Trenton.
