ALPENA -- The Alpena Police Department responded to a bomb threat at Alpena Regional Medical Center this afternoon.

According a press release, hospital staff say a man threatened to detonate an explosive device because he was upset over a billing issue. The threat was made over the phone.

Officers and deputies initially secured the building perimeter. Once the suspect was identified, officers attempted to contact him at home but learned he was no longer there. Police say a further investigation revealed the suspect may have walked to a friend's residence in the 100 block of Adams Street. The suspect was located inside the friends home and was taken into custody.

The 49-year-old man was lodged at the Alpena County Jail on a felony offense.
