DETROIT (AP) -- The Michigan Democratic and Republican parties are meeting this weekend to fill out the remaining slots on the fall ballot, especially nominees for state Supreme Court.

Republican delegates meeting Saturday in Grand Rapids are expected to nominate incumbent justices Stephen Markman and Brian Zahra. The third slot will go to appeals court Judge Jane Markey of Grand Rapids or Oakland County Circuit Judge Colleen O'Brien.

Democrats gathering in Detroit on Sunday are expected to approve three nominees who have the backing of party leaders. They are Wayne County Circuit Judge Connie Kelley, Oakland County District Judge Shelia Johnson and University of Michigan law school professor Bridget McCormack.

Republicans control the Supreme Court, 4-3, which means the election will determine if they keep control, expand it - or lose it.
