BOYNE CITY -- Local businesses are coming off a very successful summer season, which is encouraging new businesses to move to this region

"It's exciting for us, just because the city is so engaged in really doing so much for itself," Morel's Bistro Owner Brett Cuper said.

Cuper just moved to the area from Ann Arbor. He had a summer home here. After he saw the business atmosphere, he decided to make the move to start his dream restaurant.

"It is huge and that's really brought us forward from the chamber and all the business people, they're working very hard to make this a very nice and exciting community to want to reside in and own a business in," Cuper said.

Morel's Bistro is one of four businesses that are finally having their grand opening celebrations. The Brook Retirement Community is also one of the new businesses. They are part of a Northern Michigan chain that expanded to the area.

"This is a really important, I think for Boyne City, because there hasn't been a facility like this and I think it's been so important that number one we are able to help the economy in hiring. We have 14 employees that are all locally hired and I think that brings very good business to to the area," The Brook Boyne City branch Nurse Manager Cindy Goddard.

So far The Brook has already filled nearly half of their openings. This immediate impact is sure to be felt by the local economy very soon.

"That creates jobs in the community just makes things go better in the community and I think that sort of economic increases is being felt throughout the community," Boyne City Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Jim Baumman said.

There have been a total of nine new businesses that opened up in the region this summer. Precision Edge and Boyne Ink will also celebrate their new businesses later this month.
