Labor day weekend means a lot of time spent outdoors and that's why health experts are urging you to take simple precautions to protect yourself against the West Nile Virus.
According to the Michigan Department of Community Health, the latest reports show there are 80 confirmed cases of west Nile virus in the state, four of those resulting in death.
To protect yourself the MDCH is offering up some tips.
1. Use bug spray that contains the active ingredient DEET or any other EPA approved repellent.
2. Avoid being outside at dusk and dawn when mosquitoes are most active.
3. Empty water from mosquitoes breeding sites like buckets, kiddie pools or old tires.
4. Wear light colored, long sleeved shirts and pants outside.
