BEAR CREEK TWP. -- A groundbreaking ceremony will take place Wednesday for a new winery in Emmet County.

Mackinaw Trail Winery will be located south of Petoskey on U.S. 131.  The 8,500 sq. ft. building is expected to be complete the first part of December.

Mackinaw Trail Winery is currently based in Manistique, which opened in 2004.  Tasting rooms were added in Mackinaw City in 2008 and Petoskey in 2009.

"We are excited to be part of the wine country that the Petoskey area is becoming," said Ralph Stabile, owner of Mackinaw Trail Winery.  "This area has great potential to be the next big thing in winery destinations.  I'm excited to get the winery built!"

In addition to the winery, a 15 acre vineyard and about 5 acres of fruit trees will also be planted.

The groundbreaking ceremony will be held at 2pm.  The address of the winery is 3423 US Highway 131 just outside of Petoskey.
