TRAVERSE CITY -- Update 3:00 pm Tuesday: Steven Haller was arrested for the assault of the 19-year-old woman at the Whiting Hotel.

A man was arrested early Saturday morning after sexually assaulting a young woman in at the Whiting Hotel in Traverse City.
According to the Traverse City Police Department, the 19-year-old woman was at the Whiting Hotel when a male acquaintance showed up at her door. She let him in and after some time the man sexually assaulted her and choked her to the point where she lost consciousness.
Police say the woman woke up some time later, and the man was spitting on her and beating her with his fists. She told police that she tried to leave the room, but was pulled back in and further assaulted.
The victim told police at one point she stayed in the locked bathroom for an hour before another resident could help her get clothing and report the crime.
The police obtained a search warrant for the man's room and arrested him there. He was arrested for Kidnapping and Criminal Sexual Assault.
The victim was transported to Munson Medical Center by Northflight ambulance for treatment of multiple injuries.
