UPDATE: The accident remains under investigation, according to the Grand Traverse County Sheriff's Office. The investigation will determine whether there will be any charges or citations.

Officials with DeVos Children's Hospital in Grand Rapids tell 7&4 News Zeke Goodwin died from his injuries after being hit by a truck at the fair.

Goodwin was riding his bike on a service drive at the Northwestern Michigan Fairgrounds Wednesday morning when he was hit by a pick up truck.  The truck, driven by Tad Thompson, 39, of Kingsley was backing up on the service drive at the time.

Goodwin was flown to DeVos Children's Hospital shortly after the accident.  He passed away at 2:40am Thursday.  Zeke would have turned 7 years old on Friday.

The Goodwin's church community held a prayer vigil at the fairgrounds Wednesday evening and Thursday morning.  Grief counseling is also being offered for those needing help dealing with the tragedy.

The Goodwin family was very involved in 4-H.  A picture of Zeke hangs on the empty stall where he kept his show horse.  The 4-H community is reaching out to the family during this tough time.

"We are a big family. Nobody is a stranger and anytime anybody needs help there is always somebody there to step up and when something like this happens we really see it come full circle.  We are all there to support each other," explained Angle Walker.

Community members are donating money from some livestock sales Thursday.  Elmer's in Traverse City is also donating time to build a bike path on the fairgrounds in honor of Zeke.

Zeke's funeral is scheduled for Saturday afternoon at 11 am at the First Congregational Church in Traverse City.
