TRAVERSE CITY -- "We're going to celebrate the Olympics and the Film Festival with fresh, local, organic broccoli," said chef Phil Murray from Phil's on Front in Traverse City. "If you want to go watch the Olympics or go to the Film Festival, I would recommend having a bowl of steamed broccoli."

Phil is helping you create some of his favorite dishes in your own kitchen every week on UpNorthLive Tonight on ABC 29&8 at 6:30 p.m.

This week Phil is showing us how he prepares broccoli.

Phil's cooking directions:

First, trim off all leaves. Cut stem off, but leave flower whole. Take a large knife and mark an "X" at the stem's tip.

"When you make the 'x' there, all of the water goes up into the stem and into the florets," said Phil.

Simply put broccoli in boiling water for about two minutes, then trim.

"I love my broccoli," Phil sang. "Because I'm Phil's on Front and I do broccoli!"

If you can't wait until next week for a recipe, or Phil's singing, stop in at Phil's On Front in downtown Traverse City. Phil's on Front is located at 236 East Front Street.
