ROSE LAKE TWP, -- A 22-month old boy is in critical condition after nearly drowning in Hogback Lake Thursday.

The incident took place at about 5:30 on Thursday on Hogback Lake, in Rose Lake Township. According to troopers with the Michigan State Police, the mother was at work and the boy was in the care of two 14-year-old babysitters. The infant wandered away down to the lake, where he typically played with adults. About 20 minutes went by and the babysitters found the boy in about 2 and a half feet of water.

The infant was transported to Spectrum Health Reed City where he was taken by Aeromed to Devos Children's Hospital.

Michigan State Police are still investigating the incident and the story will be updated as more details emerge.
