The Michigan Department of Transportation and the Michigan State Police posted a new safety video to help drivers understand speed limits in freeway work zones.

MDOT uses the "Where workers present 45" signs to show drivers the speed limit when they are passing workers or active equipment.

"These signs are designed to help save lives, but only only if motorists do their part and drive responsibly," said Kirk T. Steudle, State Transportation Director.

The "Where Workers Present 45" speed limit applies when workers or active equipment are within about one car width of the line of barrels in the work zone.  If there is a concrete barrier wall, then the speed limit is 60 miles per hour.
