TRAVERSE CITY, MI -- On July 16, the northern Michigan community is invited to attend a groundbreaking ceremony for the Grand Traverse Area 9/11 Memorial Park.

The park will be located behind the Grand Traverse Metro Fire Department at 897 Parsons Road in Traverse City.

Park organizers said the location is designed to be a place of quiet tranquility and is intended to be a future refuge for thoughtful reflection, solace and remembrance.

A piece of steel recovered from the north tower of the World Trade Center will be located at the park
