Power has been restored to close to 80 percent of those with outages
Wednesday's severe weather led some people to have to celebrate Independence Day sans power.
According to Great Lakes Energy, close to 6,000 Northern Michigan homes were without power last night. As of this morning, 5,019 were back on.
Great Lakes Energy says there are still 828 outages in the Northern Michigan area. The counties with the most outages are Mason, Oceana, Emmet and Lake.
Consumers Energy is reporting 385 outages in Isabella County, 490 in Lake County, 170 in Mason County, 650 in Mecosta County and 1,170 in Manistee County.
To combat the rising temperatures, Manistee will be hosting a "cooling shelter" at Manistee High School for those residents without power. The city is teaming up with the Red Cross to keep those residents cool. The school is located at 525 12th Street in Manistee.
If there are no more large storms today, those without power outages should expect to have power back this evening, according to Great Lakes Energy.
