LANSING -- Fishermen may soon be able to add a new weapon to their arsenal.

The Michigan Senate recently passed a bill ,which is sponsored that would allow the Department of Natural Resources to issue an order permitting the use of crossbows for fishing. The bill is sponsored by Senator Darwin Booher (R-Evart),

Senator Booher says that since crossbows can now be used for hunting, allowing them to be used for fishing "makes sense."

"By adding another opportunity for sportsmen to enjoy our great outdoors, we may also encourage more people to come out and take advantage of some of the world's best fishing," Booher said.

The bill was enrolled by the Michigan Senate on Wednesday and has since been sent to the governor to be signed.
