Silver and even yellow are the standard colored hand trucks that are created here at B&P Manufacturing, but the unique request for a pink one sparked an idea to spread awareness about cancer.

"We had done a pink one for one of our distributors out east and we decided that the American Cancer Society might like to do that so about three years ago we ended up donating a bunch of them to 'Bras Across the Grand' down in Grand Rapids and its really kind of escalated since then," B&P representative Scott Dunlop explained.

The first pink hand truck was created three years ago and since then they have grown in popularity. Seventy pink hand trucks have been delivered to date and the requests keep coming in as the word gets out about this colorful piece of equipment.

"We did a mass email to our distributors saying hey, look, here's a look at A.C.S. events and Relay events all over the country, if you'd like a pink hand truck to donate for the A.C.S. for your local chapter, let us know," Dunlop said.

After these pink hand trucks are manufactured they're sent anywhere from San Francisco to Boston, and even right here in Cadillac.

"So the pink just kind of comes out and you just never know what your gonna see pink next," Relay for Life organizer Kimberly Simons joked.

Simons proudly shows off the pink hand truck that B&P donated to her company's A.C.S. event. The hand trucks are often auctioned off at Relay for Life events to help raise money to fund cancer research. She believes that coloring unique things like hand trucks can help support the cause.

"The research and awareness that we can do for educating people about breast cancer awareness and as well as other types of cancer its very important," Simons explained.

On June 22nd and 23rd there will be a live auction at the Relay for Life in Wexford County. The winning bid will be donated towards cancer research.
