CADILLAC -- The Wexford County Sheriff's Office, Department of Natural Resources, and U.S. Coast Guard are searching for a body of a missing man who drowned in Lake Mitchell.

Sheriff Gary Finstrom says the man jumped off a pontoon boat to save his child who was in the water. He was able to get the child back on the boat, but then he went under. The sheriff says the child was wearing a life jacket, but do not believe the father was.

U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Traverse City is assisting in the search with a helicopter crew, according to Commander Joseph Buzzella.

Crews plan to search until dark, and then will continue efforts in the morning.

7&4 News has a crew on the scene. We'll bring you more details as soon as they becomes available.
