A Northern Michigan man well known in the Frankfort area died in a boating accident.

Robert Foster died Saturday in Lake of the Woods in Ontario, Canada, along the Minnesota border.

Close friends tell us that the 70-year-old was on an annual fishing trip with old friends when the boat malfunctioned and crashed into a rock wall.

Foster and another man were killed instantly. A third person guiding the boat was injured.

Foster and his wife were responsible for a 2-million dollar donation to start the new YMCA. The facility announced in January that it had met its goal for the building on Silver Lake road in Garfield Township.
