CHEBOYGAN -- Six weeks after the former Cheboygan Memorial Hospital closed its doors, the medical center is back up and running, with a brand new name and the community is celebrating!

Dozens of people gathered outside McLaren Northern Michigan Cheboygan Campus Monday morning for a ribbon cutting ceremony, which marked the reopening of the hospital's emergency and diagnostic services.

Of the 300-plus employees that lost their jobs back in early April, 150 were rehired, many of whom were eager to return to work Monday at 7:00 am.

Hospital administrators say it's been a long six weeks but now that emergency services have been restored, a sense of relief is spreading thru the community.

McLaren Health Care VP of Operations Thomas Mee says, “It’s very emotional, lots of hugs, lots of embraces, people are satisfied to be back to work. More importantly, they’re glad to have access to their providers again.”

While minor outpatient surgeries are scheduled to return sometime after Memorial Day, inpatient care is not going to be restored.
