MESICK -- Mushroom lovers have a place to celebrate this weekend, the mushroom capitol of the United States, Mesick, right here in northern Michigan.
The 53rd annual Mesick Lions Mushroom Festival kicked off Friday and will continue through Mother's Day.
The festival celebrates the picking season for morel mushrooms, which are readily found in the hills surrounding Mesick and are a crowd favorite.
The event brings thousands of people to Mesick, where they can enjoy carnival rides, a flea market, a parade and contests.
