The Alba teenager will be taking part in the Poetry Out Loud competition in Washington, D.C.
Randi Laundre', a sophomore at Alba Public Schools will take center stage in the Poetry Out Loud national recitation competition.
ALBA -- An Antrim County teen is taking her love of poetry to Washington D.C. to compete in a national competition.
Randi Laundre', a sophomore at Alba Public Schools will take center stage in the Poetry Out Loud national recitation competition. Laundre' has a chance to win a $20,000 college scholarship.
Laundre' competed against 36 other Michigan students March 9-10 and was crowned the Michigan Poetry Out Loud champion after wowing the judges with her recitations of "A Psalm of Life" by Hendry Wadsworth Longfellow; "Eros Turannos" by Edwin Arington Robinson; and "She Walks in Beauty" by Lord Byron. As the Michigan champion, Laundre' won a $200 award and a $500 award for her school to buy new poetry books.
Laundre' will compete against students from 53 states and U.S. territories on Monday, May 14. You can leave a message in support of Randy Laundre' on the Michigan Humanities Council facebook page.
