TRAVERSE CITY -- Hundreds of people got their Saturday morning off on the right foot, by raising thousands of dollars to promote the health of newborn babies.

More than 300 people showed up, ready to walk 5 miles, for the annual March for Babies event at the Grand Traverse Civic Center Saturday morning.

7&4's very own Melissa Smith was there to help kick off the walk and speak about the importance of the March of Dimes foundation.

The goal is to help raise money to fund research to prevent birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.

Organizers say they think they will raise more than $115,000 dollars.
