DETROIT (AP) -- An abandoned beagle is receiving medical attention after being found in a urine-soaked trash bag on Detroit's east side.

The Michigan Humane Society says Thursday that the 2-year-old dog may have been inside the bag for days and possibly suffered some type of trauma before she was found Wednesday by a person who works in the area.

The dog appeared to be in pain when picked up by the Humane Society. It was examined by veterinarians and given painkillers.

The nonprofit's Cruelty Investigation Department is offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever placed the dog in the trash bag and abandoned her.

The person who left the animal in the bag could be charged with animal neglect or animal cruelty, a four-year felony. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Michigan Humane Society's Cruelty Hotline at 313-872-3401.
