CLARE COUNTY -- The Clare County sheriff says a 13-month old child was struck and killed in his family's driveway Sunday morning.

The accident happened in the 2000 block of Robin Street in Harrison.

Sheriff's deputies say a 57-year old family friend driving a 2002 Dodge Ram van pulled into the driveway and struck Kyle Counts.

The toddler's father was outside watching his son and other children play from the garage.

Sheriff John Wilson says, "He saw the kids outside and the van pull in.He turned around to put some air in the tire and heard the other children start screaming and then observed what happened."

The Sheriff says the driver had alcohol in his system, but it was under the legal limit. The investigation has been turned over to the prosecutor's office.

According to the Child Safety and Abuse Programs website 2,4000 children-or approximately 50 children a week are injured in driveway accidents.
