TRAVERSE CITY -- UpNorthLive's Facebook fans voted to hear more about how going barefoot could help shed light on community needs.

On Tues. April 10, United Way will set out for its third annual One Day Without Shoes.  At noon participants will leave United Way offices in Traverse City and walk through downtown without shoes.

"It's simple, to raise awareness of the needs in our community, state, country and even globally.  Many people tend to take their shoes and boots for granted.  Without much thought we look out the window, gauge the waether and pick the appropriate shoes.  But many people in our area do not have boots and maybe only one pair of shoes.  Children in many countries have never owned a pair of shoes and are subject to many diseases and injury without them," explained United Way Marketing Coordinator, Michelle Gallagher.

If you want to help United Way raise awareness consider joining the group for a motivational and somewhat uncomfortable walk through downtown Traverse City barefoot.

Visit United Way's website to register for the event or call 231-947-3200.

If you would like to help choose the news, take part in our Facebook Story of the Day segment.  Each evening, three new stories are posted to our Facebook fan page.  You have until 9am the following day to cast your vote for the story you want to see on 7&4 News at 6!
