A historic depot is being renovated into a restaurant that will employ special needs adults.

CADILLAC -- A Wexford County non-profit is opening a new restaurant to provide a good place to eat, while also creating jobs for special needs adults.

The After 26 Project will soon be opening the doors of a restaurant in Cadillac called the After 26 Depot Café & Unique Gifts. The eatery, at 127 West Cass, will employ 30 special needs adults in Wexford, Missaukee and Osceola counties.

Organizers say it's an important project because in Michigan, after 26 years of age, special needs individuals can no longer attend public school leaving their options limited. Before opening, the non-profit must address the renovation requirements of the depot building. The building was the original Ann Arbor Railroad Depot and was constructed in 1911.

So far they have raised $40,000 of our own funds and have also secured a $75,000 grant from the USDA. They say they need to reach the $200,000 mark to open up. To donate CLICK HERE.
