Michigan voters in 2006 passed a law banning the consideration of race in college admissions and public hiring.

CINCINNATI (AP) -- A federal appeals court is taking another look at Michigan's ban on affirmative action in college admissions and government hiring.

A dozen or more judges are eligible to hear arguments Wednesday at the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati. The full court last year overturned a decision by one of its three-judge panels and said it would reopen the case.

Michigan voters in 2006 passed a law banning the consideration of race in college admissions and public hiring. The law forced the University of Michigan and other public schools to change admission policies.

In July, a three-judge panel at the appeals court said the law treats minorities unfairly and violates the U.S. Constitution, but that decision was thrown out a few months later.
