KALAMAZOO (AP) -- Kalamazoo College has approved a 10-year master plan for the private school that includes new construction projects.
The Kalamazoo Gazette reports the school's Board of Trustees approved the plan Friday. The school is working to be designated as an "institutional campus zone" by the city of Kalamazoo. That would allow Kalamazoo College to develop the campus over the next decade without city land use approval.
The plan includes additional parking and green space; a new fitness center with a swimming pool; and construction of a new building for the Arcus Center for Social Justice Leadership.
The school also has proposed adding stadium lights at a rebuilt soccer and football complex. Some people living nearby have opposed those plans.
