Young girl injured in hit and run accident

ALPENA -- A man is behind bars in Alpena after he struck a 12-year-old girl with his car and then drove away.

The hit and run accident took place around 7:30 Sunday night on Tawas Street near Eleventh Avenue.

The girl was transported to Alpena Regional Medical Center where she was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The 36-year-old suspect and his vehicle were later found at a home on Tawas Street.  He was arrested for operating while intoxicated-high blood alcohol level and failing to stop and identify at a personal injury accident.  He was also arrested on outstanding warrants and cited for driving on an expired license.
