TRAVERSE CITY -- A Traverse City student is facing charges after he allegedly assaulted a school secretary.

Police say the 17-year-old Traverse City Central High School student entered the school office Wednesday morning looking for a backpack.  The bag had been taken from the suspect's girlfriend earlier that morning.  The secretary stood up from her desk and  told the student the backpack was in an adjacent office and that he was not allowed to get it.  Police say the student pushed the 57 year old woman from the front and then from behind, grabbed the backpack and left.

Traverse City Police arrested the teenager around 10:40am in the downtown area.   He is facing assault and battery charges.
