TRAVERSE CITY -- Despite the mild conditions this winter, the North American Vasa Cross-Country Ski Race was a "go" on Saturday.

Nearly 700 cross country skiers, from all over the state and country suited up and hit the trails for the 36th Annual Vasa.

The races started bright and early on Saturday morning at Timber Ridge Resort in Grand Traverse County.

Skiers get to choose from the 12k, the 27k, or the 50k races.

There are two more big races on Sunday, the 16k and the 6k, which are part of the "Gran travers Classic." Racing starts Sunday at 9:00am, with an awards ceremony to follow at 11:00am.
