PESHAWBESTOWN -- Our Facebook Story of the Day for Thursday was chosen- and you wanted to know more about the chance to hear traditional Native American stories.
GTB elder Tom Peters will be at the Eyaawing (pronouced "A-Yah-Wing") Museum and Cultural Center in Peshawbestown on Saturday, telling tales traditional to the winter season.
The stories will reflect cultural teachings and practices based on a historical cultural icon called Nanaboozhoo by the Anishinabe. Nanaboozhoo is recognized as a teacher and a trickster. Visitors will be able to engage with Peters through a question and answer discussion period held after the story.
The museum itself has it's corners painted in the sacred colors and a curved roof and walls representing the Great Lakes. It has many displays, a couple which include a medicine wheel window and two preserved bald eagles. The museum is located on M-22 south of the Leelanau Sands Casino, and beverages will be served following the free event. The storytelling begins at 2pm Saturday, and for more information you can call the museum director, Cindy Patek, at 534-7764, or the curator/archivist, Nodwesi Red Bear, at 534-7768.
