TRAVERSE CITY -- You get help the Father Fred Foundation feed the hungry in northern Michigan by taking part in the 18th Annual Frostbite Food Drive.
To help the community's critical need of food and personal care items, Father Fred has set a goal to fill at least three semi trucks this year! The items needed include: food, personal care items such as diapers, toothpaste, shampoo, laundry soap. You can also donate cash which will be used to purchase food pantry staples.
Anonymous donors are offering to match donations of food, personal care items and cash up to $100,000. Separate food drives will run concurrent to the Frostbite Food Drive in four outlying counties. Father Fred works closely with Benzie Area Christian Neighbors, Good Samaritan of Antrim County, Kalkaska Area Interfaith Resources and Leelanau Christian Neighbors.
"Once again we look forward to greeting the hundreds of cars and people who come out to our food collection sites with all sizes of donations during the Frostbite," said Father Fred Executive Director Martie Manty. "Food is that basic necessity that everyone can relate to and every donation - be it food or cash - adds up to helping the Father Fred food pantry respond to our community's growing needs."
The trucks are located in the parking lot of Garfield Centre, which is on the 8-hundred block of S. Garfield Avenue. Volunteers will be on hand from 8am until 6pm weekdays and 9am to 5pm on the weekends.
