Police say he traveled across Northern Michigan using the checks
TRAVERSE CITY -- Antique shops across Northern Michigan lost thousands of dollars after a man spent weeks writing bad checks for gold and silver.
Traverse City Police say Anthony Lane wrote more than $15,000 in checks from a closed bank account between December and January of this year. Police say he then turned the jewelry in to other stores for cash.
Lane is suspected of the crimes in Traverse City, Manistee, Alpena, Harbor Springs and Cadillac.
Police believe more bad checks are out there, Lane remains in jail.
