TRAVERSE CITY -- It's an ancient form of exercise that can help those suffering from arthritis.

You can learn Tai Chi through Northwestern Michigan College's Extended Education Life Academy program.

The class is designed to maximize the potential benefits of Sun Style Tai Chi and teaches a variety of gentle movements and exercise that can relieve pain and improve posture, circulation, concentration, balance, and stability.

According to the Mayo Clinic, Tai Chi was originally developed in ancient China for self-defense, but evolved into a graceful form of exercise often used today to help treat many forms of health conditions.

The NMC course runs from January 18- March 14. Cost is $89. The class meets on Wednesdays from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at Munson Community Health Center, Room #F.
