GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY -- Kalkaska County Prosecutor Brian Donnelly died Saturday while skiing on the Vasa Trail in Grand Traverse County.

Grand Traverse County Sheriff's Office responded to the Vasa trails, near Strombolis Road to a report of a man down at around 2:45pm Saturday afternoon.

The preliminary information revealed a 61-year-old Kalkaska man was skiing on the trail and was found unresponsive in an area near "The Rock".

Kalkaska County Sheriff Dave Israel confirmed Sunday that the man was indeed Kalkaska County Prosecutor Brian Donnelly.

Israel says Donnelly was pronounced dead at the scene.

Donnelly had been the Kalkaska County Prosecutor since 1995.  According to the Vasa organization, Donnelly was one of only six men who had completed every one of the 33 Vasa races.
