Old Man Winter is back from vacation, and reminding us what winter in northern michigan is like!
Snow continues to fall throughout the day today, with the main accumulating snowfall coming to a close around midday, leaving scattered snow showers across the area. Many locations have 3-4 inches of snow this morning, or more. Gaylord, Houghton Lake, Sault Ste. Marie, Rogers City, Lovells, and Interlochen have all received 7-8" so far.
With northerly winds gusting up to 30mph, expect to take it slow this morning with some slick roads, some drifting, and reduced visibility due to blowing snow. While we’ll start off the day in the teens and upper 20s, the temperature will drop throughout the day, and tonight’s lows will be in the single digits for many as we see a blast of arctic air. Those winds stay up also, but as the system pushes out of our area, we’ll see them die down overnight.
For the E. U.P. today, expect around ½” to 1” accumulation today. Northern Lower can expect about 1” for most, but Charlevoix, Leland, Bellaire, TC, and Grayling may see 2-3” today, and while the majority will see some scattered snow showers tonight, Leland and TC may receive another inch or two tacked on. Most in the Central Lower will receive 2” today, with Manistee, Cadillac, Houghton Lake getting between 1-3”. Expect only ½” to 1” tonight.
We have a winter storm warning until 7pm for Leelanau, Antrim, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Manistee, Wexford, Mason, Lake, and Osceola counties.
