Thieves targeted cars, homes, and commercial buildings over the past 6 months
GAYLORD, MI -- Gaylord police and other local agencies believe they have found the men involved with more than 80 crimes over the past six months.
One suspect is in custody and Gaylord police say there likely will be more arrests.
Officers got the break while investigating a car break-in at Applebees in Gaylord on Saturday.
Chief Joe Fitzgerald of the Gaylord Police Department says interviews and search warrants have worked to recover thousands of dollars of stolen property reported from Gaylord car break-ins and breaking and entering complaints.
"We have people report a breaking and entering, or a larceny, they say, well, I know you probably won't ever find it, but you know, there's a lot of times we do. It may take a few months, but this is what happens, and all of a sudden you come across somebody who's still doing it, and you can go back and say, yeah, they are involved in this," says Fitzgerald.
The department is looking through reports to return some of the recovered property to its owners.
If you haven't reported a break-in, Gaylord Police Department wants to hear from you.
Chief also says most of the break-ins happened to unlocked vehicles and homes and he reminds you to lock up.
