MT. PLEASANT -- School leaders in Mt. Pleasant are fighting back after a fast moving virus sent dozens of students home sick.

Mt. Pleasant Public Schools is closed until Monday, in an effort to get the district's buildings disinfected.   Superintendent, Michael Pung said the problem was first noticeable Tuesday when 40 students were absent with a stomach virus from Ganiard Elementary.

By Wednesday at noon more than 200 students from Ganiard were home sick. By Wednesday afternoon, students in other buildings began showing symptoms.

With the illness spreading so quickly the day before at Ganiard, school leaders thought it was best to shut school down for two days so that all the buildings could be thoroughly cleaned.

Health officials in Isabella County believe the illness is Norovirus.  To read a letter from the health department on the issue click here. School leaders are also getting health information on Norovirus to parents.  To view a fact sheet click on this link.
