Some Northern Michigan students are hoping to put their first stamp on their passport , but they're going to need a little support from the community.
A handful of Forest Area High School students from Fife Lake are hoping to take their learning experience outside of the classroom into Costa Rica.
The students have been holding a number of fundraisers from working in a restaurant to having a beauty competition.
Teachers say this kind of learning experience is one that lasts.
"So, it's not something that goes into their brain then leaves after the test is over. Which we all know we experience right? After a standardized test the kids are like "Oh, I don't remember a thing I took on that test." This way they can actually experience it and hopefully it stays with them longer. I think that you grow up a lot on these trips and earn a lot of independence, so you're learning life skills as well as academic skills"
The students trip will take them on various journeys including planting trees in the rain forest and attending a Costa Rican school.
The students deadline to raise the money is approaching quickly, if you'd like to sponsor a student or take part in one of the many fundraisers they have you can check out their website at www.eftours.com under their teacher's name Krystal Corwin.
