MOUNT PLEASANT (AP) -- Isabella County residents who don't have health insurance may be taking up an offer from an area hospital.

The clinic at the public health department in Mount Pleasant will offer primary-care services, such as treatment of minor illnesses. It also can assess chronic conditions, such as asthma, diabetes or heart disease.   Assistance will also be available for lab and x-ray tests, and medications prescribed at the clinic. Non-clinical volunteers will assist with operations, on clinic night and with follow-up throughout the week.

Central Michigan Community Hospital President Bill Lawrence tells the Morning Sun that no one should suffer needless health emergencies due to a lack of insurance.

There will be no dental or vision care, pregnancy testing or routine immunizations. Patients must live in Isabella County at least seven months of the year.

The clinic opens Thursday at 5:00pm. Sign-in is required between 5-6:30pm.

The Central Michigan Free Clinic is located in space donated by the Central Michigan District Health Department at:
2012 E. Preston, Mt. Pleasant, MI 48858

For more information, call the Central Michigan Free Clinic at (989) 953-5333.
